Pacific Cost Highway - 2025

June 11
To Reno, Nevada

We meet at Nates in the morning to get the bikes loaded up and strapped down. So far so good!

We only had to stop three times to adjust the bikes, with Nates tipping once while transitioning on the I-15 to I-215 exchange - other than that, we made it into Wendover!

We finally made it to Reno! We parked the truck & trailer and moved the bikes to the hotel parking garage. I took one last picture of Nate's truck and trailer in case we never saw it again. After check-in we wandered through the casino where I got a refresher on how to play Craps and proceeded to watch my $20 vanish almost as soon as I placed it on the line.
June 12
To Eureka, California

We got up early and hit the road. We took US-395 to CA-70 towards CA-36 where we encountered the first of many single lane closures.

We made our way towards Quincy so that we could get some breakfast and coffee at Brewhaha.

At another lane closure we tried to move to the front of the line only to get yelled at by a couple of workers. My "plan" to distract them while Nate slipped on through on the right side almost worked! Consequently we got stuck behind a flatbed for a loooooong time.

CA-89 to more closures. Part of the detour was riding on some hard pack. I panicked, of course, and dragged my feet the whole way. Nate and Oliver rode along like it was nothing.

We made it to CA-36

Canyon overlook, outside Paynes Creek, California

We headed into Red Bluff to get some lunch. While eating at Rockin' R, we found out that CA-36 was closed right before Fortuna and the only way out was an 18 mile unpaved detour. Based on my earlier "off road" attempt we decided to switch up our plans a bit and instead head towards Redding and take CA-299 to Eureka.

Past Whiskeytown Lake, towards Weaverville and Eureka

We met up with Clint in Eureka and had dinner at Jack's Seafood.
June 13
To Santa Rosa, California

I was laid up at the hotel with a migraine so Nate, Oliver, and Clint took off. I'd catch up with them later if I could. They hit the 'Avenue of the Giants' first.

Then the Founders Tree

Then the famous "Drive-Through" Chandelier Tree.

I ended up taking off from the hotel around 11:30 and headed south. On my way, I got a message from Oliver that they were still at the Chandelier Tree where I was able to meet them. That "road closed" sign would have been useful several hundred miles to the east.

We hopped on PCH in Leggett. This highway ended up being a lot more twisty than I thought it would be. Of course down the road we hit some single lane closures.

Overlook by Mallo Pass Creek

Another view point south of Gallaway

We continue making our way towards Santa Rosa. These roads were made for Oliver's bike. Mine, Nate's, and Clint's... not so much.
June 14
To Reno, Nevada

We got up early and hit the road. We passed through wine country and through Woodland

We stopped in Nevada City for coffee. After dumping money in the meters we figured out they were broken...

We walked through the farmers market that was going on

Then walked up the street to Java John's to get our coffee.

Back on the bikes and took off.

We stayed on CA-20 and made a quick stop at a viewpoint for pictures.

We made a slight detour onto Donner Pass Road.

It was worth it.

We made our way towards Truckee where we had lunch at Burger Me.

We made it back to Reno. The truck and trailer were still there! We loaded up the bikes and drove to Winnemucca.
June 15
To Home

We got up, had some breakfast then packed the Truck. We said bye to Clint and headed off towards home. Even with the highway closure and the migraine, it was a pretty great trip with some great fellas.
